John Jefferson Musgrove

BORN 1866 - DIED 1944

John Jefferson (JJ) Musgrove, Son of John Mattison (Matt) Musgrove, son of John Willis Simeon (JW) Musgrove, son of William Thomas Musgrove, son of John Thomas Musgrove Jr., son of John Thomas Musgrove Sr., son of Cuthbert Musgrove "The Mariner"

JJ Musgrove was a promonant member of the Soso Community. He married Rebecca Carolyn Cooper (1866-1928) and they had seven children, three girls: Beulha, Maude & Norma and four boys: Rufus, Alonzo, Leon & Claude. Soon after the death of Rebecca in July 1928, JJ married her younger sister Seleta Ancibelle Cooper (1869-1955). JJ owned land on both sides of Hwy 20 (Hwy 28), beginning from about where J.P. Parker Road is today, to near Soso as well as a couple parcels Northwest of Soso. Upon his death the much of the land was divided among the seven children. For decades the seven families have come together on the 4th of July for a Family Reunion. I found some old 8mm movies of three of the late 1960s reunions and although poor quality you might still be able to recoginize many who have gone on before us. If you look closely you will find most of the seven brothers and sisters in these videos. The year or each is a best guestimate based on Joni's age at the time the film was taken.

Rufus Larkin Musgrove (1888 - 1968)

Rufus was the first born of the JJ Musgrove family. Rufus grew up tall all and lean with a strong work ethic. In 1916 he married Margaret Edith (Maggie) Windham (1891-1971)and they had a large family of four boys and three girls. Rufus and Maggie had very strong ties to their church and to god and they instilled the importance of having god in your life in their children.
