Welcome to the Musgroves of Jones County Mississippi

The Musgroves of Jones County is only a small branch of a very large tree of Musgroves. Thanks to hard work and dedication of two of our cousins, Ted Musgrove and Charlotte Musgrove Hintt, the rest of us can get a glimpse of our immediate family history and follow our ancestry back a thousand years. Our forefathers have ranged from prominence to charlatans, from preachers to lawyers, and from loyalist to traitors. The following is a small window which we might peer through to view where we all have originated.

Our Family History

1000 Years of Musgr****
Although the spelling of the name has slightly changed over the centuries, Charlotte Musgrove Hintt through years of research, traced our heritage back to about the year 1030 to a fellow by the name of Gamel de Mucegros. The musgraves held titles such as "Sir", "Lord", "Baron" and "Sheriff". Click the aqua colored checkmark to get a picture of the first 500 years:

16th Century Musgroves
Cuthbert Musgrove (Musgrave)(1644 - 1687)) who was given an apprenticed as a mariner by his father William Musgrave Esq., was married to Dorothy Harrison (1645 - 1698) and brought his family to the new world. His nick name was Musgrave The Mariner. Cuthbert had a grant of land in Prince George's County, Maryland. He named his land 'Threwsbury' or 'Shrewbury'. He arrived with his family around the year 1687, however he died from an illness he acquired during the journey. His son John Thomas Musgrove led a very colorful life during the early colonization of the era. Click the red checkmark to get a picture colony years: . .

The Free State of Jones Musgroves
John Willis Siemon was born around 1800 in Baker County Georgia to John Trapnell Musgrove and his wife Nancy Tate. John Trapnell was the son of John Thomas Musgrove II who was the son of Cuthbert the Mariner. Through his lifetime, John Willis had lived in Alabama, Florida and Lousiana prior to coming to Mississippi around 1862 . John Willis had five sons and since his name and his father and grandfathers were all named John why not continue with it. John Mattison was the branch of the tree that we fell from. The JJ Musgroves of Soso
